The Express Scripts Canada Pharmacy worked with a patient to coordinate the delivery of their high-cost prescription drug and ensure they understood that it needed to be refrigerated upon receipt. Before taking the drug, the student removed the drug from the fridge to give it some time to warm up. Being busy with school activities, they forgot about the drug for a several hours. Recognizing that the drug may no longer be safe to take, they contacted the Express Scripts Canada Pharmacy to consult with a pharmacist. After consulting with the drug manufacturer, the pharmacist recommended that the drug be discarded.

Understanding that the student-patient may not be in a financial position to pay for a replacement, the pharmacist advocated for a one-time compassionate replacement dose from the manufacturer. The manufacturer agreed and had a replacement sent to the pharmacy the next day free of charge. Needless to say, the student was overjoyed to find out that they would not be out-of-pocket for the medication replacement and was impressed that the pharmacist went out of their way to help them.
